Wager or Playthrough requirements can be confusing at times and we’re here to help. Some online casinos offer a simple and straightforward Dollar value when providing a free chip bonus, but when it comes to a match bonus or a free spins bonus, things can become a lot more complicated. Wager requirements are always based on a multiplier of the bonus value, so here we have a simple calculator with a multiplier function only for you to use to calculate the requirements you’ll need to meet.
Let’s go through the 4 types of casino bonuses and how the wager requirements are calculated:
Free Chips: These come with two types of wager requirements, either a fixed value or a multiple:
Fixed Value: With these types the bonuses the casino provider will specify the amount of times that the bonus needs to be turned over before becoming eligible for withdrawal. For example, the casino could give you a $25 free chip and specify that you need to meet $1,000 in playthrough before cashing out.
Multiple: The basis for all the following bonuses, with this type you’ll take your bonus amount and multiply it by the specified playthrough requirement. For example, the casino will give you a $25 free chip and generically state that all free casino bonuses must be wagered 20x. $25 x 20 gives you $500, that’s the amount that you need to wager before cashing out.
Free Spins: The most common type of casino freebies, but the most complicated to calculate. A casino will provide you with a number of spins at a preset bet value per spin (line count and coin size). As above, the casino will state that all bonuses need to be wagered a set number of times, for example 25x. Until the free spins are played, neither you nor the casino know how much your bonus value will be, only the number of spins that will be given. Let’s take an example: Casino gives you 50 free spins (at 50 lines and 10c per line, that’ll be $250 worth of spins). After playing the 50 free spins you’ve won $100, this $100 becomes your bonus value. Your playthrough requirement will be 25x$100 = $2,500.
Welcome and Match Bonuses: The reason this can’t be a fixed value is because the bonus value is based on how much you deposit, so you know the value of the bonus, but the casino doesn’t. Let’s take another example: The Casino offers you a 200% Match Bonus. You deposit $10 and, therefore, receive a $20 bonus. Your playthrough requirement will be 25x$20 = $500.
Important to note: some casinos advertise a lower playthrough multiplier, but specify that the wager requirements are based on the deposit and bonus combined.
Prizes: Online casinos are all about prizes, whether spot prizes, tournament winnings or any other. These prizes can be treated as Free Chips above and calculated in the same way. Prizes are often of varying values so the multiplier method applies. Although Cash Prizes usually do not carry any wager requirements.
